  • 10Gbit routers Introduction to the network
    31/01/2008

    Dear Customer,

We are very pleased to inform you that the ordered 10Gbit routers are finally arriving!

This is a very important step for our company, since this upgrade will give us almost unlimited expansion possibilities(10gbit, ipv6,mpls,vpn).

Juniper introduced the MX960 in quarter 1 2007, and got our attention right away. We already use Juniper products in our network (m20's) and they have proven to be very reliable. Together with the famous Junos software it's an almost unbeatable combination.

Together with the introduction of the Juniper MX960 we'll introduce the Foundry MLX platform to our network. These also have proven themselves at, for instance, the AMS-ix. We are very familiar with the Foundry product lines (we currently use fourth generation BigIrons and ServerIrons GTS 450's) which made the new MLX to a logical choice.

Together with this router upgrade we'll upgrade our 1Gbit AMS-ix connection to 10gbit and shortly after that we'll upgrade our 1Gbit NTT/Verio to 10Gbit.

We expect to start implementation friday 1 februari 2008.
Preperations already started, and we don't expect large impact for the network, other then a couple of large route updates.

This upgrade will replace the routers at EUnetworks , we decided to phase-out the Foundry Bigirons at EUnetworks because they can't meet the expectations of today.
Customers connected to these BigIrons (Internally known as globalvoice1 and globalvoice2) will be moved to new 1000BaseT/10-Gbit HP switches. For customers with a VRRP connection to both routers this should be a hitless move. For customers with only one uplink this will cause a 5 to 20 seconds interruption (the cable needs to be physically moved to another patch-panel)
The single-connected customers will get a VRRP connection shortly after the phase-out of the BigIrons. VRRP will give them more protection against network/cable/port failure and our noc more freedom to implement software upgrades to the routers.

We are very happy to announce this and gradually move our network into the future.

If you have any questions please contact Jaap Harmsma,

    With Kind regards,

    Jeroen Wouda

  • introduction ServerIrons 450 to the network
    28/09/2007

Today MuntInternet introduced ServerIrons to the network. Foundry's ServerIron family of application delivery and traffic management switches is the industry leader in high availability, acceleration, security and scalability for business‐critical IP, Web and VoIP applications. The ServerIron provides a total solution for server load balancing, application (Layer 7) switching, server farm and application security, SSL acceleration, compression, and multi‐site redundancy. The ServerIron products are almost exclusively used by over 2,000 of the world's most demanding organizations. MuntInternet will use a dual ServerIron 450 setup with management 7 (WSM7 module). Both units will be equipped with dual power supplies for optimized uptime. Customers will be connected to both load balancers. If one of the ServerIron 450’s will have a problem the other one will take over immediately.

  • AMS-IX Outages
    08/12/2005

Yesterday (07-12-2005) the Amsterdam Internet Exchange experienced some major problems. Because of this some of our clients experienced slow connections or fluctuating connections. AMS-IX statement: Investigations so far learned that a high cpu load situation on several switches in the platform caused loss of VSRP keep-alives between the core switches; this caused the platform to become unstable. We are not yet clear on the actual cause of the high cpu load. We will schedule some lab work to further investigate this to find the root cause of the issues.

After about 2 hours the problem was fixed.
